The Clinical Trials Navigator (CTN) recently attended the CAMO (Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists) annual meeting in Ottawa. This national event gathers medical oncologists from across the country to discuss advancements in cancer treatment and patient care.
CTN presented on its recent expansion to Thunder Bay and Winnipeg, highlighting how this growth is helping to improve access to clinical trials. Clinical trial accrual remains a critical factor in advancing cancer treatments, and through this expansion, CTN is identifying new barriers and facilitators that impact patient participation.
Why is this important? In Canada, patients cannot refer themselves to specialists. Instead, they rely on their medical oncologists to guide them toward suitable clinical trials. As the key link in the referral process, oncologists play a pivotal role in ensuring that eligible patients have the opportunity to participate in trials that could provide innovative treatment options. By engaging with oncologists at CAMO, CTN strengthens its mission to improve access to clinical trials and ultimately enhance cancer care across the country.
