Meet Christina Trieu

My name is Christina, and I'm currently a research assistant in the Clinical Trials Navigator program. In this role, I match gastrointestinal cancer patients to clinical trials across North America, tailoring my recommendations based on each patient's medical history, biomarkers, and treatment history. It's detailed work, but one that holds so much potential to change lives, particularly for those navigating systemic barriers to accessing cutting-edge treatments.

From day one, I realized that clinical trials represent more than just scientific inquiry—they are essential pathways to ensuring all patients have the opportunity to access the latest medical advancements, irrespective of borders, backgrounds or socioeconomic status. This commitment to health equity is a driving force in my work.

One of the most exciting projects I’m working on explores how we can more effectively integrate clinical trial options into multidisciplinary case conferences (MCCs), where healthcare professionals discuss patient treatment plans. Through this study, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of clinicians’ and stakeholders’ perspectives regarding the barriers, benefits, and perceptions of including clinical trial navigators in these discussions.

This work has reinforced my belief that clinical trial access should not be an afterthought; it must be a fundamental option in a patient’s journey from the very start. By incorporating clinical trials into MCCs, we can provide patients with additional avenues for care, potentially improving outcomes and ensuring access to the latest therapies.

As I look ahead, I’m eager to explore ways to improve the management and equitable distribution of clinical trials, ensuring that every patient has a voice in the process. I’m excited about the possibilities and grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside an incredible team dedicated to making a meaningful impact in this field!
